1. LIVE LONG by Loving God and Honoring Our Parents
LOVING GOD WITH ALL OUR HEARTS, BODIES, MINDS & SPIRITS
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; Do not have any other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:2-6)
HONORING & RESPECTING OUR PARENTS
Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. (Deuteronomy 5:16)
My reflections…
In my heart, I have always believed in the existence of a powerful creator even before I knew Him as God through our Holy Bible. Every time I see the stars, I am reminded of my creator. Every time I see the fishes in the ocean, I am reminded of my creator. Every time, I see a newborn baby, I am reminded of my creator. Every matter in the universe, every nature around me, and every thing about me, I feel and see the wonders of my creator.
My faith in my creator is neither dull nor weary. My faith is just amazing. My knowledge about Him has been increasingly fascinating as I know Him day by day. Either flipping through the wonderful journeys of the past or simply listening to a friend’s life of salvation makes my heart enthuse with wonders. And throughout my life I have concluded that He who created me is beautiful and powerful, for He is one and the same who is in control of everything in this world.
Yes, God deserves to be honored, respected, and worshipped with our entire being. It is He alone whom we are created for, and whom we are to communion in our life after death. And with the Father’s great love to us, His Son, Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross, died, and resurrected to show how we were forgiven and how we became victorious over sins and earthly death. Because of that great sacrifice, we then are able to seek God’s grace daily and ask for His mercy when we fail. When time comes when our own earthly life has expired on us, we know not to worry about the darkness because we have seen the light already through God and His great love for us. We shall then live eternally in a blissful heaven with God’s angels and His beautiful praising people.
Now, to be in God’s favor and to have a good, long years here on earth, we learned that we also need to honor our parents. He promised that when we honor our father and mother, it enables us to enjoy life here on earth besides gaining a spiritual favor from God. This honoring of parents is our obligation to God as well as our expression of thanks to our Almighty Father as He takes care of us just like our parents or guardians did.
True parents would never let their kids get hungry or abuse. True parents would nurture and discipline their kids to grow up into the best potentials with beautiful souls. True parents would seek out good things for their children’s happiness and to invest worthily for their future. Even if our earthly parents have failed in their responsibilities, we still need to forgive them, and we must still honor them as God had commanded us. Even if our earthly parents had dismayed or frustrated us, we must still continue to show them love and respect for to do so will please our Heavenly Father.
It might be hard sometimes to forgive especially if that someone who offended us gravely is a family or a best friend. But we also know that we can only know peace and joy when we really learn to forgive others, and especially to forgive ourselves for not forgiving them. When I don’t forgive someone, I have this heavy burden in my heart, and I cannot sleep well. So, I always make it a habit to forgive someone before I go to bed even though it was so hard. Because if I don’t, when I wake up the next morning, I feel bad and every single thing turns bad and ugly. And honestly, I don’t like the feeling of unhappiness settling in my heart, or the grumpiness of my attitude. It can be very disturbing. It can be very unpleasant. And it makes my day just terrible, and I can’t stand it.
We must also seek God’s help, comfort, and healing when we are hurt, confused, angry or unforgiving. We know that only God can put back the right perspective in our lives after chaos. He can synchronize events for us to help us out of danger and dire circumstances, and even helps us in strengthening our faith in Him.
I believe that it is always wise to tread with humility and forgiveness daily to enable us to find peace and happiness. When one is happy, one can avoid a lot of troubles, and even avoid sickness like depression. When one is happy, one can focus on good things for a fruitful life. When one is happy, one can live long. But we can only be truly happy when we are at peace with God, with each other, and with ourselves.
2. FEEL HAPPY by Not Coveting Other People’s Life and their Assets, and by Forgiving Them When They Trespass Against Us
NOT COMMITTING CRIME & COVETING OTHER PEOPLES’ ASSETS
You shall not kill. (Exodus 20:13)
You shall not commit adultery. (Exodus 20:14)
You shall not steal. (Exodus 20:15)
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. (Exodus 20:16)
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. (Exodus 20:17)
FORGIVING OTHERS
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.
(Matthew 6:9-13)
(Luke 11:2-4
My reflections…
We are forbidden to desire what others have or plan to steal away things which God has given to others. If we covet other people’s life and their assets then we are depriving ourselves from happiness and good life.
People who are jealous of what others have are generally discontented, materialistic, greedy, miserable, or bitter. They don’t have peace of mind and heart. And some of them may even be busy plotting unpleasant business against others because they are swinish of power and fame.
And sometimes even though they are already enjoying a luxurious life, still these unhappy people would want others to fail, to be poor, and often than not will try to prevent others to achieve a full, beautiful life by destructive gossiping. Some will even poison their friends’ minds to make him or her desirable to theirs eyes.
We also need to be careful of our friends who are such sweet talkers but have malicious minds. We shall endeavor to pray for them to know God and be transformed into new beautiful creations. We should also forgive them of their shortcomings because just like us sometimes we are enslaved by our carnality. Just like us they too can commit mistakes. Forgiveness is the only balm that can heal hurting souls and a scarred friendship.
You know we can always dream and be driven by our ambitions. But we should not use others to gain what is not right for us. It isn’t fair at all. We should not gossip badly about others to destroy their integrity and gain what is not ours to have. Coveting other people’s position and benefits isn’t right at all if we don’t deserve them.
Committing a crime is not just frown upon but it can be the worst thing that could ever happen to us. We must keep a clean slate by being a law-abiding citizen. It would keep us away from unnecessary stress. It would keep us away from paying huge legal fees. And it would keep us away from prison.
As human beings, we were born with innate qualities and highly functional. We were born with free will to choose our own ways to follow. And we were born with special behavioral skills to love and care for each other. We know when we wrong others because our spirits get restless and because our good conscience tells us so. We need to use our high intelligence and free will to nurture good attitudes in us, to be compassionate to others and to be faithful children of God.
We need to apologize or make restitutions because our wrong deeds may hurt others badly or may put our lives in danger. Thus, it is imperative to ask God for forgiveness and to the person(s) we wronged. As humans, yes, we are bound to err. But as humans, we are also given hearts to empathize to other people’s situations and forgive them when they trespass against us. We may need time to heal our hurting hearts. But, why wait when we can accept forgiveness and keep our minds at peace before we go to bed at night? Why do we deprive ourselves from a good night sleep?
We should influence our own world by staying zealous, pep, and positive about life. We should be happy when our families or friends are happy of their successes in life. We should applaud them of worthy endeavors and congratulate them of their achievements.
We should also empathize with them when they are feeling sad, sorrowful, or when they are suffering. We should pray and help them in any way we can when they are ill or in grave danger. We should support and love each other according to God’s love for us. And well a healthy dose of humor here and there will likely help us take our troubles in life lightly and it would help us feel happy, stay healthy, and live longer.
3. STAY HEALTHY by Working, Resting, Giving and Celebrating God’s Goodness
WORKING & RESTING
For six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even in ploughing time and in harvest time you shall rest. (Exodus 34-21)
For six days you shall labour and do all your work. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, or your son or your daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or your donkey, or any of your livestock, or the resident alien in your towns, so that your male and female slave may rest as well as you. (Deuteronomy 5:13-14)
GIVING TITHES & OFFERINGS TO GOD & HIS CHURCH
All that first opens the womb is mine, all your male livestock, the firstborn of cow and sheep. The firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. No one shall appear before me empty-handed. (Exodus 34:19-20)
CELEBRATING THANKSGIVING WITH THE LORD & HIS PEOPLE
You shall observe the festival of weeks, the first fruits of wheat harvest, and the festival of ingathering at the turn of the year. (Exodus 34-22)
My reflections…
Idleness is like nesting yourself into poverty. When we are lazy we know that nothing happens to our life. But it doesn’t mean we shall need to overwork too. We work when needed to supply our basic needs and to rest when needed to relax our physical bodies and reflect on things. It just means that we should balance our life.
Our bodies are like machines, when they are overworked, they’d shut down. Sometimes they can be fixed but others may never come back to life again. We should never take our health for granted even if we think we are still young. We should know our physical limit and when to stop working. Enough rest is good for our body to function well.
A good farmer will go to his field before the sun goes up and leave his farm before the sun sets down. This is a good work ethic for farming and there’s no difference with other works out there. If working parents come home and dine with their children, I think we won’t have too many teen and social problems today. A healthy family life is ideal to build a strong community and a progressive nation.
We must manage our time wisely, and keep ourselves with healthy work habits, while pining to have a quality family time. Also, we only splurge on things when we know we are creating lovely memories for our loved ones and to invest in their future. Never spend anything beyond our means to avoid debts slavery. Not a happy thought when we have to worry about paying bills every month. To live within our means is the best option, and to save for rainy seasons. No debts, no headache. Peaceful mind equates to a healthy body.
When God blessed us in abundance in means that we lack nothing and we should be taking care of what we have. Because when we are in abundance we can provide our loved ones with food, clothing, and shelter. This provision of necessities will ensure that we are protected against harsh elements that shorten our life. We can splurge on buying organic, nutritious food to nourish our bodies to keep us strong. We can buy our own house and lot accessorized with good amenities to ensure our family’s well-being. And we can also afford to buy seasonal clothing to protect us from drastic weather changes and to keep a good homeostatic balance with the environment.
Going to church is one’s obligation to show reverence to God through worship, praises, and communion together with our entire household. Children must be trained to pay respect and to love God, and it is the parents’ duty to do so. Parents must convey to their children about God’s commandments and promises, as well as stating the consequences when one disobeys God.
Giving tithes and offerings to God and His House bring honor to God himself. It must be done with love and a cheerful heart. How can God be happy when one complains about one is giving to the church. What is money compare to the life God has given us! It should be an immense joy to give thanks by bringing the first fruits, the finest livestocks, or the 10% of our salary to the House of the Lord in response to our gratefulness to what He has blessed us in life. Remember that when we give all the best for the Lord, we shall earn His favor and we shall also reap of only the best in everything we desire and hope for!
When we give our tithes and offerings to the Lord, we are assured of our wealth to gain hundredfold. It is not just through material things that God shows us the real wealth in life. It can be a total peace of mind. It can be joy overflowing in our hearts. It can be good health and long life. It can be great love for our family. It can be hope for good things. It can be His daily providence. It can be children given to your family. It can be beautiful friends. It can even be laughter and smiles. We are blessed in many different ways according to what God sees in us and what are our needs in life. When we are blessed, we therefore lack nothing and so we shall stay healthy, happy, and live long.
And with every good thing that comes to us from heaven, we should rejoice and praise God for it! Whether the blessing is big or small, a blessing is indeed still a blessing. We should thank God and share that joy of praise to others. Happiness is infectious. When we are happy, we are bringing sunshine to other people’s lives. It like when you throw a stone into the lake, it produces sound and waves which ripples throughout its entire entity.
We need to shoutout the goodnews of what God has done to us and share our testimonies of God’s amazing grace so that others will be blessed. If we are blessed, then we ought to share the same blessings to others. Our charitable gestures can also extend to poor people, the widows, and the invalids. We need a heart of compassion to do good deeds to others for them to be blessed. And we shall make a loud thanksgiving in the House of the Lord to honor Him and to be glad of His people’s life and their abundance.
GOD BLESS US ALL!
